You want to create a male character as a doll – but where can you find a fitting body?
Especially with Volks, the selection of male bodies is extremely limited, and many collectors sooner or later face the same question: How do I turn my DD head into a convincing boy? In this post, I’ll show you several ways to still get the result you want – whether through simple tricks, proxy services, or alternatives to Volks.
Whether you’re just starting out or already experienced: you’ll find practical tips, pros and cons, and my honest thoughts here.
1. Small Bust – Big Effect
The easiest fix:
Get a regular Dollfie Dream body and simply swap out the bust part for a smaller one.
For example, my Kaito head is on a female body with the small bust option. Once dressed, it totally works — especially for soft, androgynous, or youthful male characters.
Pros ✅
- Easy to order directly from Volks
- No extra fees or wait times
- Quick and simple to assemble
Cons ❌
- Shirtless photos are tricky (you’ll need to edit or hide the chest)
- Not ideal for more masculine characters
- Some male DD clothes might not fit perfectly
2. Via Proxy Service
Another option: Order your dream doll via a proxy.
A proxy is someone who lives in the country where the product is sold — in this case, Japan.
Volks offers the Dollfie Dream Choice program exclusively in their physical stores in Japan, where you can customize your doll — including the option to choose a male body.
Pros ✅
- You’ll get a “real” Dollfie Dream Boy
- No compromises in customization
- Fully tailored to your preferences
Cons ❌
- More expensive (you’ll be paying for the proxy’s service too)
- You need a trustworthy proxy — especially for high-value orders!
3. Alternatives to Volks
Volks isn’t the only game in town.
Given how difficult it is to get a Dollfie Dream Boy, it’s worth considering other brands too.
Many companies offer male dolls — some in vinyl, some in resin. If you don’t already own a DD head, a full set from another company might be the easier path.

- Full doll sets are often more straightforward to order
- Especially among resin BJDs, male dolls are common
Cons ❌
- Finding clothing can be tricky (sizes vary a lot)
